If you believe changing the wording of the House rules is deadly to the English language and the American soul then you are being dramatic and hyperbolic not to mention placing way too much importance on the House rules than was is warranted.

If you are only replacing the words where the gender is irrelevant, like in the House rules, the narrative will be fine. The effect will also be the same with any terrible Canadian novel as well.
