Amber Guyger sentencing

Just an update.

Remember the female police officer that entered the wrong apartment and killed the occupant?

Amber Guyger was sentenced to 10 years. That’s 7 1/2 years for those doing the math. Eligible for parole in 5 years.

I’m bringing this up because we debate it, but never follow up on the results.

Thanks for posting that. She got off easy.

Lucky her that she murdered a member of such a respectable, forgiving family. Good luck.

The shooting shouldn’t have happened.

Appears to be an appropriate sentence. Juries have been delivering proper justice in the high profile cases of late.

Thanks for posting this.

Amazing.

Why do you say that?

Why did you?

On what basis?

Manslaughter typically is 7 to 10.

Man, I don’t know. If it truly was an accident, shouldn’t we be merciful?

No winner here. Both sides suffer.

It was a mistake and no ill intention on her part.

Why do you ask?

Do we believe this?

Police Chief Renee Hall, who was not asked about Jean’s statements, said at her own news conference that the department will launch an internal investigation over police actions described by witnesses during the trial.

“The testimony that came out in this trial is not reflective of the men and women of the Dallas Police Department,” Hall said. “I stand before you today fully committed to making the changes that need to be made.”

What changes need to be made?

What I read of the case, and I might have missed something, I didn’t see anything he did to deserve being shot if he had been in her apartment instead of his own. So it wasn’t just the mistake of going to the wrong apartment. Wasn’t he sitting on the couch eating ice cream at the time or something? Did he rush her or something?

I’ll buy that logic.

Good, good…

The guy was sitting there eating a bowl of ice cream. Seems to me a little interrogation might have been appropriate before pulling the trigger.

Reminds of the time I opened the wrong car door and saw strangers in “my car”. I was shocked but it didn’t occur to me to kill anyone. Instead, I immediately checked to make sure it was my car, saw it wasn’t, apologized profusely, and slunk off feeling like a complete moron.

Did she know that when she pulled the trigger?
