Yes, Abigail Spanberger, the Democratic U.S. Representative for Virginia’s 7th congressional district (2019–2025) and current Democratic nominee for governor of Virginia, is widely regarded as a moderate Democrat.

She has self-described as a “passionate pragmatist” and is a member of the centrist New Democrat Coalition in Congress as well as the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus.

Her voting record reflects this: According to FiveThirtyEight, she aligned with President Biden’s agenda 100% of the time but was among the most bipartisan House Democrats in cosponsoring legislation, and she voted with President Trump on just 8.7% of bills.

The New York Times has explicitly called her a “centrist Democrat,” particularly in the context of her appeal in swing districts.

The Wall Street Journal portrayed her 2025 gubernatorial campaign as an effort to position herself as the “anti-Mamdani”—a contrast to more progressive Democrats like New York Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani”

While I am not a Mandami fan, he does have some points that can be fulfilled merely because he will be Mayor of NYC. NYC is insanely wealthy, but it is VERY unequal. You have some guys making a million a week and others struggling to find an apartment and pay for food.

Legally, if he makes life easier for the working poor, that’s a good thing. Folks there have way too much money or absolutely not enough. You need everyone to have a functioning and peaceful metropolitan area the size and scope of NYC. His approach is not one I favor, but it is different and perhaps some of it may work, such as access to affordable fresh produce and free public transportation. Just a few things like that to make life easier doesn’t seem like the Communist Manifesto to me.

There are two issues with this perception people have of the city. Manhattan is not the city of New York it is merely a borough. There is a strong middle class in New York.

It is not a city of haves and have nots.

People truly have an interesting views of a city of 8 mil based on news stories and headlines.

Just as Jamaica is a neighborhood within the borough of Queens in the City of New York.

It’s hard watching people try to talk about that place sometimes.
