Abu Khatalla sentenced to 22 years for his role in Libyan Embassy attack

ok. so its cruel and unusual punishment.

I am satisfied with the outcome in this case. I believe the jury acted in good faith and convicted only on those charges they felt were proved beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Judge looks like he stayed within the sentencing guidelines and respected the jury’s verdict in full, not only their convictions on the conspiracy and material support charges, but also their acquittals on the murder and attempted murder charge.

The sentence given was based solely on the crimes for which he was convicted. It will clearly be “hard” time, served at a tough institution. I believe both the sentence he received and the fact that he will most likely serve it at ADX Florence to be appropriate.

In a broad sense, it can be considered cruel and unusual.

The punishment has to fit the crime. Considering the crimes he was convicted of I think it’s fine.

When a small time street dealer gets stuck in solitary for a few months, that is cruel and unusual.
