A School Teacher

.>

I was going to be a middle school teacher.

  • 20 Years Electronics in the Navy.
  • 7 Years Instructor duty and Navy Master Training Specialist
  • Bachelors in Industrial Technology.
  • Masters in Technology Education.
  • Did my student teaching and everything (actually there is a LOL story that goes along with that if anyone is interested)

But in the end I was offered a Technical Training position with local a major tech manufacturing company (part of Canon USA) at about $12,000 more than a starting teacher in the area (1998 dollars) and with a wife and two kids I went with teaching adults.

Middle School Tech Ed was what I was targeting. I just couldn’t see myself in an elementary school and staying sane or teaching in a high school and ending up in prison after cold-cocking a smartass getting mouthy.

How could I forget?:exploding_head:

I lead some stretching exercises we do in my workplace to keep moving & avoid repetitive strain injury type problems.

I suspect some nights I’m more enthusiastic & have more ideas than others. I look online to find different things to do with the session.

Basically my idea is this isn’t a 30 minute workout, but food for thought—some simple stretches that can be done at one’s station to avoid the boredom of not moving & work muscles a little.

I suspect I could now were I a more recent college grad. My field being languages & living now in the Massachusetts, where kids must learn a language starting in middle school, I wouldn’t have a shortage of students.

There being more different groups here, there is adult ed, which offers a number of languages for those interested, as well as ESL, for those newer arrivals wishing to learn English.

Thirty years ago & living in Florida at the time, no. It’s not a field too many students expressed interest after the second year, required of college prep students. If they remembered a few useful phrases after that, they were interested.
