Zuckerberg - "I got it wrong" Lays of 11,000

Looks like Zuck didn’t like being outdone by Musk. Musk looks like an amateur compared to this. His Metaverse was a total flop and he sunk so much into it. Now he has to “shift” his resources.

And of all things, he sent out an email to those fired. Gasp!!

What really pisses me off is how these C Suite leaders make these bad decisions and then its the rank and file employees that get screwed over.

He went too far in with the metaverse crap. Nobody wanted that. Now he’s dealing with the blowback of putting everything on an idea nobody asked for.

Right after raking in what they could on election ad buys.

Watch gas shoot back up too.

Private big tech can do what they want, right?

Notice how some people are only enraged about layoffs when it’s a certain person doing the laying off? :joy:

Almost 3x as many people fired than at Twitter but Meh, ■■■■ happens.

11k represents 13% of Facebook

3700 represents 50% of Twitter

In both situations, it sucks for those laid off.

Every one of those nerds should’ve seen it coming too. Coders are a generic commodity in the tech industry. Any idiot high school dropout can learn it. lol

That pissed me off as well. Then Dorseys tweet about how sorry he was that he grew Twitter too fast was just horrible. It was such a hollow and inauthentic tweet. Dorsey isn’t going to have to figure out how he is going to pay his mortgage and rent or worry about health insurance.

As a reminder… the average SWE makes around 200k a year at Facebook.

They would put them in the top, what? 3%?

“Anyone can do it”

I agree coders are the 21st equivalent of a factory worker but i still feel sorry for thosr who lost their job. Most of us have been there and its a ■■■■■■■ horrible feeling.

At least that whole, “You could always learn to code!” joke was funny while it lasted. It might even make a comeback.

Okay that is funny.

No, no they aren’t.

Starting salaries usually put entry level SWEs, in tech, in the top 10% of wage earners nationally.

SWEs 150-200k
Sr SWEs 200-300k

They are not a commodity… yet.

Fair enough. I just know so many people who have moved into coding that was my perception.

Well, there’s 14,000 less of those generic turds now, so maybe they aren’t a commodity anymore.

I am specifically talking about SWE in Big Tech. They are the cream of the crop. But even generally speaking… SWEs make a ton of money.

Definitely more money than anyone claiming Tech SWEs are a commodity

Increase more H1B visas pay 1/3rd less the price incoming. This ■■■■ is just starting incoming recession that will make 2007-08 feel like the good old days. The Fed is running out of tools to stop both inflation and the run away debt.

Did he happen to recommend they learn to swing a hammer or connect a pipe? Real jobs are in demand, after all.
