Savvy enough to know the the report of a 12 gauge inside the room could permanently deafen both him and his wife … and that they make a horrendous hard to clean up mess. 
Been there done that, hearing is fine.
The shotgun was hanging by the door. Good thing it’s SC and Biden hasn’t had his way yet or he could get arrested for improper storage of a firearm.

It has probably worked before. At 60 years old, it is extremely unlikely that this was his first gig.
I’ll bet he didn’t fire the gun because it wasn’t loaded.
But now we see that even an unloaded shotgun can be a deadly assault weapon.
Heck, for that matter I could make the butt of a laser tag gun into a deadly weapon.
