If you listen to the talking heads on TV the day of the election you deserve to be snookered because the results won’t be in until a few days after the election as mail in ballots in most (if not all) states just have to be postmarked by November 3rd and can arrive after election day.

What you are hearing on November 3rd are the talking heads projection of the election.

Sit tight, be patient, it’s going to be a while ride since some news reports I’m seeing show DEMs requesting mail in ballots at a higher rate then GOP.
