Any thoughts about the time zone Tokyo is in and whether it has had an impact?

In the modern age, I don’t think that is an issue.

In addition, Tokyo is only one hour later than Beijing, and those Olympics rated very well.

So honestly, if there is an impact, I suspect that it’s minimal.

It will be interesting to see in 2032 when the finals of the swimming will be scheduled for the evenings local time rather than what it is occurring in Tokyo now.

Ah, now I understand. Are you in/near Brisbane?

As far as I understood, the games were scheduled as per local time. Is that not the case?

I am about 3,600 km (2,250 miles) away from Brisbane. There are gold medal events in the swimming now around 11 am local time.

Yeah, I figured they tried to keep to local times for the locals (which is a bust for Tokyo), but also for the circadian rytyhms of the athletes.

I know it’s a decade off, but do you think you might go?

An Aussie just won the 200m Men’s breaststroke for the first time since Tokyo 1964. I was lucky enough to attend the Sydney Olympics; probably unlikely to attend the 2032 games in Brissie.

Some of this is easily explained…

2 of the greatest athletes of all time… Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps competed for the last time in 2016. Came you name similarly marketable talent in this years Olympics?

Show your evidence.

Looks like you were wrong @westaussie … he is dead serious.

No more than when the Olympics were in China.

Why? We will see the events when the Network chooses to air them.

Is he?

Or not shown. I believe the 1500m men’s freestyle final at the Sydney Olympics was not shown in the US because there was no American in the final.

That was my beef from the beginning with the right and left going into these olympics. Put aside the political BS and unite for the good of this country! We want a 1980 miracle team, not self self serving athletes.

The entire US women’s soccer team

Luka Doncic, Simone Biles, Kevin Durant! There are big time athletes in these olympics, people are just tired of the political bs! All televised sports are down in viewership it’s not just the olympics.

None of them are as big as Phelps and Bolt. Also couple that they both had their last Olympics after a historic (never before done) run… it’s no wonder views are down a bit.

Also add in the fact that this Olympics has no fans… was a year delayed… had rampant rumors that it would be canceled or postponed.

Again… there are far more reasons why this Olympics is taking a viewership hit. Also, this Olympics is also streaming. TV viewership is tracked differently than streaming.

As much as conservatives want ā€œwokeā€ to be the death of a company or sports… it’s just not.

What does 1980 team mean?

Actually China was the last olympics for me, at least as long as NBC airs it. Their fawning over the CCP during that olympics was shameful. Praising for instance how wonderfully trained their athletes were, with no mention of the fact that many of them are ripped away from their parents as small children and forced to train or else.

Among others. There was the one who turned her back on the flag on the awards stand too.
