Woody Williams, America's last World War II Medal of Honor recipient, dies

Williams received the Medal of Honor from President Truman for clearing many enemy pillboxes on Iwo Jima with his flamethrower over the course of four hours without assistance and at great personal danger, returning to his own lines only to refuel his weapon.

He was the final living Medal of Honor recipient from World War II.

Damn. R.I.P. :us:

It was an honor having that generation as grandparents.

Or, in some cases, as parents.

Woody Williams was a great American :us:.

God love him.

May he Rest In Peace.

Rest In Peace, Sir.

I only have my mom left. Dad’s gone, all the grandparents are gone. Mom has no gallbladder, nearing 70, so I’ll be a full orphan within the next decade or so.

It really was just a blip in time.

I’m sorry. I hope you had an opportunity to get to know your grandparents. And I wish the best for your Mom.

My Dad passed at 96, but lived with us for the last 15 years of his life. My daughter spent a lot of time with him and got to know him well. She said that he was her best friend. I couldn’t have asked for more.

He served in the ETO with the 1st Infantry Division. I miss him so much.
