Things would go a lot faster if they vetted the mail in ballots prior to election day, then you would simply have to count them. Even better, you could vet and count the mail in ballots prior to election day and just release the information once polls close. That is what Florida does, and they probably do elections better than any other state except Washington, which only has mail in ballots.
Do you ever wonder why other states do not just do what Florida does? It is because the GOP fights this approach tooth and nail. They insist in many states that you cannot even vet mail in ballots until poll closure, much less count them. And THEN they have the gall to complain about how long it takes, and that corruption must be in the system because it takes so long!
We just fixed this in Michigan with Proposal 2, so our vote counting will go faster. The GOP was dead set against it here. What I see is that the GOP wants to slow things down to create a “Red Mirage”, where the GOP candidate is leading on election day and then slowly loses that lead as the mail in ballots are counted. They can then argue the system (that they set up against Dem wishes) is corrupt and that the Dems who do win after all votes are counted should be discredited.
Trump did this masterfully, I have to say. Even claimed victory election night before most mail in ballot counts even started. And a LOT of people fell for it.
When Kennedy and Clinton were elected votes were not counted 2 weeks later.
This new approach was started in the last 2 y. with Pandemic.
Ds used a convinient excuse to start something new.
Plus here in Nevada they track incomplete ballots and send them back for “correction”.
That was unheard off before. Do you realy believe they send them back or rather scribble what’s missing and put it back.
