We were already at $1trillion before all this.

With all the layoffs and unemployment and slowdown, I think we may surpass $2trillion.

Crisis aside, can we afford it? Should we be doing this?

Personally I gave up on getting spending under control years ago. For over 50 years, no politician has done a thing to curb it. They have ALL added to the national debt.

I wonder if the government is considering who they are sending all this money to.

Multi-millionaires don’t need $1,000. (Though I wonder if they’ll sue for discrimination if they don’t get it.)

Perhaps it will go to tax filers who were in an income bracket of less than $100,000?

It would make more sense to only provide support payments to people whose income has dried up, but I suppose the time and cost of figuring out who gets and who doesn’t and then fighting through all the issues raised by people who will ask “Why didn’t I get mine?” regardless of whether they should have or not are going to create more cost than just including everyone.

Trump can argue that putting the money into anyone’s hands is a basis for stimulating the economy I suppose… although I wish more money were going to people who are losing their incomes in the current crisis rather than those fortunate enough to have their cash flow intact.

I don’t agree with running up the national debt. Now or ever. By ignoring the debt for over 50 years, it has put us in a situation where when we need emergency funds, like we do now, it could bury us.

It was 1,000 dollars to every american.

Now it’s 2 -1,000 dollar payments to those who need it.
