Seems to me Hakeem Jeffries is intent on grinding deportations down to a trickle and keeping dangerous illegal entrant foreign nationals in our country. Why?
Isn’t it in the best interests of American citizens and their families, and especially in NYC, for Hakeem Jeffries to work with all due diligence to deport the infestation of criminal aliens (rapist, child abusers, sex traffickers, armed robbers, etc.) which the previous Democrat Party Leadership invited into the United States?
Why hasn’t Mayorkas been indicted for lying to Congress under oath? We the people have a problem both sides of the aisle that make up the corrupt, DC establishment. The swamp must be cleansed.

Where do you find general police powers assigned to the Federal Government in the Constitution? Hint: you don’t. ICE is perfectly free to arrest immigration violations on civil administrative warrants, but they have no power to patrol, engage in crowd control, arrest citizens, or any of a myriad of things that they do.
Until relatively recently, they did not do these things, and they have no statutory authority either. Their remit is limited to immigration violations. When they kit up like a SWAT team or a military unit, they go beyond their powers.
The only way you can justify this is the much maligned “necessary and proper clause.” Look back on you own comments on that.

Your question sweeps too broadly. The enabling statute for ICE authorizes apprehension of immigration violators, and says nothing about the ability to engage in other law enforcement functions. Of course, they are allowed to investigate violations and there is an inherent right to self-defense. Where does the power of patrol and crowd control come from? What is the source of authority to arrest for non-immigration violations?
Look to other Federal law enforcement agencies? FBI does not patrol. They do targeted investigation and upon issuance of a warrant, make arrests. Secret Service - same. This is why local law enforcement is always involved in operations where there is a need for crowd control, etc.
So my response is, some ICE operations are within its constitutional powers, but much of what we are seeing is not. BTW, I notice that you dodged the question about the constitutional source of authority for ICE operations outside of investigation and targeted apprehension lies? Of course, Hakeem suspiciously ignores the rule of law and especially expedited removal of illegal aliens authorized under Title 8 of the U.S. Code, specifically 8 U.S.C. § 1225(b)(1)
Hakeem also ignores:
8 U.S.C. § 1228: which authorizes a separate expedited process specifically for non-lawful permanent residents convicted of “aggravated felonies”.
IIRIRA (1996): The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, which specifically created the modern expedited removal framework to streamline the deportation of arriving aliens who lack valid documents or commit fraud.
Hakeem Jeffries ought to start considering how the massive flood of illegal entrants into NYC has inflicted pain and suffering among NYC’s citizens and their families.
