You could have just typed “argle bargle, something something lib sheople lulz” and saved a few keystrokes since that basically seems to be all you had to add to the discussion.

Sunglasses beer. Cheers!

So I’ve watched this thread and found it funny, the same types of people** that supported DeSantis punishing Disney for poking it’s nose into politics are against being able to protest against religious organizations that have poked their nose into politics for generations.

I don’t condone trespassing, interruption of services, or vandalism.

But if a religious organization pushed into the political realm into an attempt to influence laws of this land, then I’m fine with public protests outside that organization that are (a) peaceful, (b) non destructive, and (c) on public property.

rye…

I would go one further, if a church does that they should loose their tax exempt status.

…and I agree.

You raise an interesting topic. If a governor of a state can take governmental action against a private corp for their disagreement with legislation, could a governor of a state also take action against a church for the same thing, like when the leadership of the LDS/Mormon church directly encourageing members to become involved in the California Prop 8 situation?

LDS leadership was directly involved in calling its members into action during the Prop 8 debate. It wasn’t a grassroots effort of individual members expressing their feelings.

It was peaceful vandalism, dontchaknow…

Even coming from FOX news, the real extent of the “protests” are muffled.

A church in Florida was set on fire with people in it. Several pro-life organizations were firebombed. An entire tabernacle was stolen from a church in Texas. You have to search diligently to find any reporting on these. Media in the past agonized over incidents of Quran desecration. But now? Shrugs.

The linked article points out that these protests were “orchestrated primarily through social media sites like Twitter, TikTok and Reddit …”

The double standards in the current culture are stark.

It certainly didn’t get built back better.

(Sorry. Off topic.)

Nobody said the attacks are against only one faith expression.

It’s wrong in all directions. And your examples against other religions certainly don’t excuse what’s going on against Catholic Churches now.

These attacks are going to alienate pro-choice Catholics. And there are plenty of those. At a minimum it’s going to make them question their support for Dem politicians.

Which is why the trespassing, service interruption, and vandalism are a bad idea.

Lawful peaceful protest in the public square? Pro-choice Catholics would join them.

Link?

Google turns up a fire at a Jewish temple in Tallahassee, but nothing else.

Several? I see one.

No evidence to suggest that was done by abortion activists, or has anything at all to do with abortion.

Personally I think it should be a hate crime…right libs?

There are good people on both sides.

Agreed.

Personally, I do not have a problem with protesters standing at the sidewalk outside a church. If peaceful. (Another tactic is to stand at the sidewalk, but use a bullhorn so that the proceedings inside the church are disrupted. To me, that’s not peaceful.) Block the people trying to get into a church for a service? Also not peaceful, even if they do it in silence.

Vandalizing a place of worship. Yes. Certainly could be.

Yeah… I agree.

If caught they should be charged with a hate crime.

Maybe I oculd think of some exceptions…if a specific priest did something horrible, or something…

But generally, agree. Let people pray.

Even for that. Protests should not be violent, or disruptive, or malicious.

Your thinking is essentially what’s behind these Church attacks now. What Catholic SCOTUS justices are doing is horrible (in their opinion.) What the Catholic Church promotes and teaches is horrible (in their opinion).

Don’t open that door. It leads to a bad hallway.
