Ignorance is bliss regarding COVID. You’ll have to equate testing into the equation to get a more accurate picture. India has only tested 13,072,718 people where as the US has tested 45,699,708. Equate that into the total population and the truth your actually looking for to help answer your question is an unknown.

Welp, doesn’t appear that you read my OP at all:

Dr. Birk said that everyone that died, if they test positive for COVID, it’s listed as a COVID death. Is this consistent with all countries? I also understand that there’s federal money paid for a COVID death. Would you not agree that this will also corrupt the count?

Yes! We are exceptional is so many ways. Add not being able to open schools to that list.

Some schools.*

Which schools should open?

Right, we don’t know the answers to those as far as India. Even if we do identify that India isn’t reporting their deaths the same way and their actual case count is significantly higher, we are still doing astonishingly poorly. It’s a strange thing to be stuck on to try to prove that we are as/more adequate at this than India.

You said “not being able to” open schools. How did this turn into which schools “should” open? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

“Some schools*”

Mhmm. You said “schools” as if some in your area cannot be opened. Mine are getting ready to start the school year.

Got it. Cannot and should not are two different things. I suspect that all schools in my state will be directed to shut down within a couple of weeks.

Not 100% sure this is true.

It is. We wouldn’t even take the first wave seriously. In the Spanish Flu, they took the first wave seriously, then got stupid and decided it was over.

It’s a low bar, but 21st century America managed to trip on it and break both kneecaps.

It’s because we have an unqualified idiot in charge of the federal executive branch

Take for example New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. When the virus got serious the three governors got together and consulted the scientists. And they followed their lead and shut everything down. They put in mask and social distancing rules. And then when the curve flattened they started to turn back on slowly with close monitoring and ready to turn back off it things went sideways. Every step of the way they let the science guide them.
From their comments the president and vice president have made decisions not based on the science but rather at the optics for getting re-elected. And the like minded governors followed their lead. And things have gone sideways.
As a result Trump’s poll numbers are getting sledgehammered. And his ego keeps him from leading on the issue. At the end of it all he will blame the governors for their handling. For once Trump is faced with a situation that he can’t lie or make it disapear by ignoring it. And he can’t figure out what to do.
He is truly lost.

I just did the math in the county I live in and it’s .0101 total infected and .00007896 death rate. I am not with in 60 miles of an international airport, there’s no mass transit and the number of people per square mile is very low. These seem to be the factors that exacerbate this virus.

Do these countries have international airports as abundantly as the US? IMO that starts the virus. Mass transit spreads it quickly, along with how dense the population.

I’ve also noticed that people per dwelling plays a role. So cultures here in the US such as latino appear to exacerbate the infection rate among those under the same roof?

You also have to consider the processes put in place at nursing homes and elderly care facilities. Those over 65 represent a huge portion of the deaths and I believe most housing facilities are of the private sector? I think those in charge of elderly care facilities really dropped the ball on this one and their patients suffered.

Exactly. You get an A for the day.

You’re kidding right?

In LA County, after restrictions were lifted, many idiots packed bars and restaurants with no social distancing or masks.
This is the reason why we’re back where we started.

I definitely think mine should open as it always has. If you still have a virus problem down there, it’s probably best to play it safe.

Americans give up too quickly. Once it became apparent that pandemic control would involve inconvenience, we threw our hands up and decided that containment was too much of a bother.
