Must’ve missed that. But yeah, incredibly accurate. It’s why Russia realized they had to seize Crimea when Yanukovych got overthrown. They had to salvage something and they saw it as their only option.
Well it looks like some brinkmanship is afoot. The Russians have announced that talks are hitting a dead end and that their military leadership is preparing other options.
There has been simmering war for the last 7 years after heavy fighting in 2014.
The Donbas region of eastern Ukraine has seen 4619 Ukrainian soldiers die in the fighting. More than a million people have been forced to leave the area. This is a big deal for both Ukraine and Russia.
Why are we giving Ukraine ANY military assistance?
Because there is no scum on earth, in this case actual Nazis, that the US government will not get in bed with to advance global hegemony.
Not sure how the states would balance that, the best fighters in the Ukraine who were always on the front the most battle hardened was a real far right regiment called the Azov battalion which has grown in size. They are the real deal far right not what is tossed around in America as far right.
This sums them up
“I have nothing against Russian nationalists, or a great Russia,” said Dmitry, as we sped through the dark Mariupol night in a pickup truck, a machine gunner positioned in the back. “But Putin’s not even a Russian. Putin’s a Jew.”
Been reading up on them, Regimental strength now. 2 Commando battalions and a tank battalion with supporting artillery and other combat support units. Sounds more like a cavalry regiment than a commando unit. Three training units funnel replacements and recruits to the regiment. If the Russians do invade again this unit will be in the thick of it.
Ukraine is in a tough stop they don’t really have the moral choice to tell bad people not to fight for them when 100,000 + Russian are sitting on their border.
the issue is how much political sway do they have, we don’t want to see a repeat of the Golden Dawn
What I read says that they are on second generation of field commanders, with a lot of former Ukraine SPETNAZ in the unit. The original leadership have formed a political party and a supplemental national militia with several thousand irregulars. It seems that they draw a split payroll about 3/5ths from the Ukranian government and 2/5ths more from oligarchs. This is most definitely a hard core private army with extreme Ukranian Nationalist ideology.
It’s not changed much they have their views they are put up with because they where there to fight the separatists when much of the army was in shambles. Ukraine is everywhere on the political spectrum which is no surprise given their history.
Now it is being floated that the Russians are planning a false flag to justify an assault on the Ukronazis. CIA/USAID/NED is fixing up something they will lay off on the opposition. Upcoming distraction to rescue the Dims in the midterms.
