That irks me. We are paying for the war, The EU should rebuild.

But take hope: maybe if we knock Russia out for a generation or so, we can legitimately and logically draw down our support of NATO and pivot to Asia. Then if/when Europe goes up in flames we can tell them: “So sorry, we are committed elsewhere. BUT, we’ll send some helmets”.

Anyway, a man can dream.

The trillions spent in Iraq and Afghanistan were horrendous wastes of money. The lives lost in those wars were tragic.

The relatively paltry amount of money (compared to those conflicts) spent to help Ukraine defend itself deters our enemies from deciding to take over any nation they choose. In this case it deters Russia from thinking they can recreate the Soviet Empire. It also acts as a strong deterrence against China invading Taiwan.

This relatively small use of money=smart.
The immense money spent recently for unnecessary wars= really dumb.
