Why are Democrats attempting to kick Cornell West and Jill Stein from presidential ballots?

I thought “democracy is on the ballot” this fall ? Is the best way to practice said democracy accomplished by attempting to use courts to keep candidates off ballots ?

In Michigan, the state Democratic Party, Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and a voter backed by a Democratic-aligned political action committee had challenged West’s candidacy.

Democrats are asking the Wisconsin Supreme Court to step in to prevent a Green Party candidate from appearing on Wisconsin ballots.

They got tired of worrying about the Ralph Nader effect. They are wrong. If you want to win present better policy don’t remove competition off the ballot and keep locking this country into a two party system. No thanks.

Right. If it weren’t for Nader in NH in 2000, nobody would care about Florida’s hanging chads fiasco.

Good post.

Change to instant runoff voting and third parties immediately become a non-issue.

If not for the butterfly ballot in Palm Beach County they wouldn’t have had to worry about losing NH. That really cracked me up. Gore voters voting for Buchanan!!

The sweet sweet smell of desperation.

Is there evidence that that actually put Bush over the edge ?

Letting people just vote for whomever they wish is bad for democracy. Democrats are saving our democracy.

The claim was that Buchanan got a lot more votes in that county than he should have. The estimate was around 2500. I remember Buchanan admitting as much in an interview. That he got more votes than he expected.

I don’t know if this is true or not. Maybe some Buchanan voters voted for Gore by mistake as well. You wouldn’t notice those votes. I just found it comical, if true, that Buchanan took votes away from Gore, costing him the election.

No worries, they’re forcing RFK to stay on the ballot in MI. Saving democracy!
