CNN senior White House correspondent Jim Acosta attempted to give President Trump a history lesson Wednesday, but failed miserably after he falsely attacked the Commander-in-Chief’s reference to the British invasion of the United States.
Acosta attacked the President for reportedly referencing the War of 1812 while speaking with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over the two nations’ trade relationship, allegedly joking “Didn’t you guys burn down the White House?"
“SCOOP: When Trudeau pressed Trump on national security justification for tariffs on Canada Trump responded: ‘didn’t you guys burn down the WH?’ That was Britain during the War of 1812 http://www.cnn.com/2018/06/06/politics/war-of-1812-donald-trump-justin-trudeau-tariff/index.html …,” tweeted Acosta.
One problem for Acosta… the British attack on the White House was a direct response to an American assault on Ontario, which would eventually become part of Canada.
Apparently the Smithsonian Institute agrees with the President, publishing an article titled, “Today We Celebrate the Time Canada Burned Down the White House.”
