It’s actually an interesting question. If Trump is forced out, who indeed would be the Rep nominee? Pence is boring and has the Trump albatross around his neck. I assume Cruz would make a run for it but he is extremely unlikable. I actually think Romney may be a wise choice- even if he has already lost an election- but that was to Obama.

But after Trump can the GOP actually return to a more normal republican anymore? Does one have to be a nationalist at this point?

Beto could have beat Cruz but he ran a poor campaign.
Most of his ads were non specific and played on image rather than substance. “Let’s unite for a better Texas”. “Most importantly, follow your dreams”. That may work in Hollywood, but it won’t work in Texas.
He wised up during the final couple of weeks but it was too late.

It doesn’t need to work in Texas in order to make him President. He came within 2.5% in a state that nobody really thought was up for grabs at this time last year. If he can come anywhere near to recreating that energy and enthusiasm on a nationwide scale, you are talking about Democrats with 350+ electoral votes.

Cruz is widely disliked in Texas even by conservatives. Getting within striking range of him wasn’t as difficult as you make it sound.

If you see Beto in action, he’s not as attractive to voters as you think he is.
He has odd quirks and mannerisms. He jerks his arms up and down when he talks, like a stringed puppet. He speaks in jerky sentences, like he forgot what he was going to say and suddenly remembers it.
I don’t believe he can win your primaries. I may be wrong.

Kasich is waaaaay too moderate for the new Trump GOP. I’d be shocked but yeah he would be a smart bet. Sadly I don’t think today’s republicans would support him.

I think Spartacus toasted Booker. It’s turned him into a clown. It’ll be hard for him to live down.
