It’s a tough one, Rose. I’m a lefty who abhors the identity politics and race baiting of many in my clan. But with the many under 40’s I work with, it matters to them; even though they’re more conservative in many ways than I was at that age.
As to your hope that substance will attract voters. I would argue that our current and most recent Presidents benefit(ed) to a very large extent from non-substantive attraction of voters. Maybe the most since Kennedy; whose adoration is reminiscent of both O and T.
