Well, yeah, maybe not. But over the years I’ve had students come to me, years later, to say that something in my class changed the way they thought about things: life, acceptance, science, their school experience, and many other things. As a teacher you do not always know what a student brings into their later life. But when you hear that, it makes life rewarding.

And some object to their kids being indoctrinated to accept certain aspects of life. A public school is not supposed to teach that some opinions (in this case woke opinions concerning the alleged reality of alternative genders) should be accepted and prevail over the opinions of the parents.

Listen. Teaching these things is not my department. I teach physical science. But our “other” job is to know our students and support them. I know gay and lesbian students at my school, and also transgender. Fortunately, most of our students are accepting. Others are outright dismissive and rude. What do you think we should do about that?

You can make being rude a school decorum rule without demanding that the rude person accept the person they are rude to. As I said earlier, you cannot force anyone to abandon their biases.

Obviously you are too close to the situation (and well indoctrinated) to recognize that the constant indoctrination of students to accept what the school decides are the social norms and use of shame to encourage compliance is a form of force.

It’s amazing to me these people complain about the schools whitewashing some subjects while not only dismissing but actively encouraging it on others. No hypocrisy there.

and where has anyone here argued they should teach acceptance of that either? don’t mistake this for being anti any person or preference, just government schools have no business interfering in parental responsibilities and moral guidance to their children.

gender identity and preference is not a “subject”, especially for young impressionable kids.

slaves were, but not the black slave owners and not the tribesman who took them as slaves and sold them either. one of the largest slave owners in LA was a black woman who rented out her slaves to work on plantations… is she innocent? or what about the freed slave in VA who created his own farm, bought slaves to work it and was one of the cruelest slaveholders their were? who’s more innocent, him or the guy who freed him? (don’t know his name, just saw a program recently that discussed him and his methods).

What does this mean for the legacy of white slave holders?
