Just for the record, I was 14 at the time and it went on for 10 and half months. This man never hold it against me, we continued hunting and fishing together until I finally left the state few years later. We still remain good friends today. So it wasn’t just about hunting that I learned from him. It’s about forgiveness, tolerance, patients and friendship etc. He also worked with his hands, building and making stuff/things.

To this day he had made biggest/largest impact on my life over a long term, yes he was like a father to me.

Thus the importance of having a father figure around. I was lucky to have him.

That is a journey sir, I am glad things worked out

Nope. We began first grade with those values already firmly in place.

I’m amazed there was once a time where kids could cheat and steal in school and they didn’t get punished for it.

You said, “nope”. If they were punishing kids for cheating and stealing then they would be teaching the value that those are wrong, but you said “nope”, so I guess I was wrong and they didn’t try to enforce those values and thus they didn’t punish kids for breaking those rules.

Of course I said “nope.” You asked if before 1976 didn’t the schools teach those those things and I said nope, they did not, we learned those things before we got to school. And I said nothing about being or not being punished. How do you misunderstand that?

No, what I posted was in reference to other posters’ claims that values weren’t taught in schools prior to 1976… it had nothing to do with comparing values taught then vs the present.

But the values associated with honesty in the school work is necessarily part of the school’s original charter. The three Rs can’t be successfully taught if the children don’t have to learn in order to pass tests; that is, cheating will thwart the teachers’ efforts to teach the 3 Rs. It was necessary to teach honesty in school work in order to successfully teach.

Still values being taught that predate 1976.

Teens are going to engage in “butt sodomy” regardless if they learn about it in sex ed… but if they do learn about it in sex ed they can learn how to engage in it safely. Trans people exist. Trans students exist. Education on it is thus necessary.
