That’s why I added “simply adding to the economy.” Even if it is not direct, an illegal spending money of food, clothing, housing, etc., is still potentially paying for some services they may receive. A person not working at all is not, unless they’re using savings.

Have to agree again- dammit.

As long as ICE does everything according to the book, it isn’t an abuse of power just because Trump can benefit politically.

That’s quite a stretch. How much cash do I need to make to put a kid through 12 years of school?

I think libs are fans of “discretionary enforcement”? It goes both ways. We can call it “ACA”.

The argument to which I was replying was that illegals would not pay for their healthcare. My reply is that many of those receiving Medicaid do not pay for their healthcare and a working illegal has a greater chance of paying a percentage of their healthcare than an unemployed citizen does.

I’m not saying they’d pay for all of it, just as those on Medicaid don’t. Free higher education is a separate topic.

Waivers if you want ‘em!

Yep…

Oh geez.

If you wanted to catch criminals, you should catch them and then take credit for doing one’s job.

Announcing the you are going to deport, and then announcing the day it will take place. Hmmm. Sounds like tipping off all the people you are “deporting” and this is a PR campaign aimed at voters like you.

That’s using the government to promote one’s campaign and only tangentially to enforce the law. That’s abuse of power.

If the goal was enforcement, you would never tip off the people breaking the law.

If it’s not abuse, it is incompetence by the Trump Admin.

You can chose which one you prefer.

I reject your argument. I’ve never looked but my guess is the vast majority of those receiving Medicaid payed in taxes their whole lives. Of those who didn’t, they are probably mostly unable to.

Ironic you bringing up the unemployed while advocating for illegal immigration.

No. Your “free” healthcare will only be free to those who refuse to pay. In my case, I will be taxed, whether I use it or not.

It is fair to give violators a chance to do the right thing before changing discretionary non-enforcement.

Patience of a Saint right here

You are both ignoring the fact that I pay all that and the health and college tax.

And that was an idiotic post.

The could have done the right thing by not entering the US. They could have done the right thing by obeying the deportation order. Now you want to give them another chance? Does it not seem obvious that these are criminals who will take the opportunity to hide.

But Conservatives love to coddle illegal immigrants I guess. They are so much less expensive to hire.

40% of Medicare recipients are themselves unemployed (60% are employed). As of 2016, 91% of undocumented immigrant men and 61% of undocumented women were part of the work force.

It is more likely an illegal immigrant is part of the work force than a US citizen on Medicare.

Yes, I do. I want to give them a chance to turn themselves in so no one gets hurt.

What percentage of those unemployed are retired or over the age of 65?

They would be on Medicare, not Medicaid, unless they “retired” before the age of 65. If they didn’t put in a full 10 years work/40 credits paying into Social Security, Part A would require a premium.

So why aren’t you posting about the deplorable conditions in youth detention where people are getting hurt. This sudden “bleeding heart” eruption feels like stretching the desire to always defend the President to the breaking point.

Did President Trump ask people to turn themselves in… offer a safe way to do it. No. He wan’t thinking about that.
