What I was saying is they told the iranians they killed 80 Americans. Then it was 40 and then all over the place. A badly failed propaganda effort that is blowing up in their faces. If not for the airliner shoot down they probably would have gotten away with it.

Ok, but why would Iranian leadership want the claim to “blow over”? The purpose is to raise moral. They could claim 800, the truth would come out. I agree they wouldn’t protest.

One cannot use that to point backwards in time and say that the whole deal is moot and the US was right to pull out of it without any preparation of a replacement or expansion of the 2015 deal.

So now, Iran is taking it’s own steps to back away from the deal… and who can blame them… and work towards obtaining nuclear weapons.

What comes next?

The whole incident bringing us to the brink of war with Iran would have blown over, the people would have accepted the lies about Americans being killed as typical govt. propaganda and probably some would have believed it. The whole back and forth cycle would continue with bluster from Iran and bluster from Trump and Iran using it as a propaganda tool.

Now, the Iranian govt. has lost face in a big way, they can’t do anything about it, and I have no idea where it goes from here, but the entire game has changed. I don’t think it’s predictable.

I’m not sure democracy is the answer, that’s for them to decide. I am sure what they have now isn’t working very well.
