Our annual electric bill is close to zero, thanks to solar panels, and that includes cranking all the AC we want. Why wouldn’t we want to switch to heat pump technology? It isn’t anything new or untested.

Do you heat with solar? Do you cook with solar? Are you charging your EV with solar? What do you do at night? Electric heat, cooling, cooking, and transportation is great … as long as the source can produce what you require to do those things.

And even if you go all electric all the time. You can’t do without oil. Your “green power” would grind to a halt without oil.

I wouldn’t even consider it because our power goes out a lot. Not for long, maybe a day at most. Back when hurricane Sandy hit, people were without power for weeks. I got lucky, only a day.

I know some people are lucky and don’t get power outages. But I can see people with an electric heat pump, and an electric store, then lose power. So now you have no heat, and you can’t even boil water on your stove to generate any heat.

I know heat pump technology has come a long way. I’ve heard they work up to -20 degrees. But damn will that pump be working at cold temps. And if you live in the parts of the country that gets colder…
