It should be. But sadly, it won’t.
A starting point is a consensus to fix the system.
Right now, one party appears to control the election system and sees no reason to change. Control of the voting system means any future election results can be assured in advance. Why change and risk defeat?
As an added bonus, people who protest questionable election results can be labeled as insurrectionists and domestic terrorists. Any platform that allows discussion of the issue can be shut down on the pretext of “promoting terrorism”. If only state-approved media are allowed then questioning future election results becomes impossible no matter how dubious the outcome.
Unfortunately I see no logical way for the system to change on its own without a collapse similar to what happened in the Soviet Union. I hope I am wrong.
I am not sure how to get the vast majority of people to feel our elections are secure. Republicans philosophically believe voting shouldn’t be as easy as possible because it invites fraud. Democrats believe it should be as easy as possible or it suppresses certain segments of legal voters who usually vote for them.
I love the subtle implication that people who vote Democrat are stupid and lazy. It isn’t the people who vote Democrat flooding my messenger with chain mails and twitter posts though. Weird.
Many (<<-- Not All) Republican’s want to restrict voting because they know the more people that vote, the more likely they are to lose. They just coach their public statements as it’s about “preventing fraud”.
Many (<<-- Not All) Democrats want easy voting because they know the more people that vote, the more likely they are to win. They just coach their public statements as as being about suppressing voters.

I’m of the opinion that we can actually do both: make elections secure and make it easy.
- No excuse mail in voting with multifactor authentication.
- Standardized early voting for federal elections.
- Standardized secure drop boxes that are monitored.
- Voter ID and then ensure systems are in place to make sure voters have the ID’s (at no charge if they do not have other qualifying ID).
- Moving election day from the second Tuesday in November to the first Saturday in November.
- A national clearing house for federal voter registration that integrates data from state voter registration databases, the IRS and the SSA.

That’s basically what I was trying to say. You said it way better though. I also like your fixes!!
"Republican’s want to restrict voting because they know the more people that vote, the less likely they are to lose. "
I think you have that backwards. The more people that vote, the more likely they are to lose, hence why they fight so hard to keep more people from voting.
You are correct. Thanks. Edited.

There’s no consensus to fix the system because the issue is the entitlement mindset of fraudsters, rather than process or technology.
They believe they were entitled to victory.
I blame poor parenting for failing to prepare people to lose and blame schools for a failure to teach analytical thinking.
You weren’t successful in this election because the president is a jackass. Full stop.
Yeah even I don’t believe they’re breaking through the MAGA/Q bubble.
We know that’s what you all want. We see it happening today. Just make sure you enjoy what happens next.
Nothing will happen next.
Hopefully no more terrorist attacks on the Capitol.
But you approve of the federal government investigating every police force in the United States over just a small amount of people who died.
You approve of every state investigating if their police forces are operating within the law over just a few people dying.
I believe this is a waste of time and money.
That the vast majority of cops are honest hard working people. Why should we waste money to find just a handful of bad cops who will be found eventually.
Trump is gone you all need to move on and address the real problem.
There was ample evidence before the election that electronic voting systems have huge security flaws.
Ironically those who were concerned about the election security before the election are dismissing any possibility of problems now. There needs to be a consensus to fix the system; a start is to admit there is a problem.

Ironically, the Democrats asked for $500m for election security and after resisting, McConnell authorized $250m.
Perhaps you should have listened to Democrats.
But be honest with yourself. If it had been $100 billion, you’d still be bitching, because you’re a conspiracy theorist prone to believing nonsense.
Also here’s what has happened.
Democrats bitched about security.
After begging for funding, McConnell finally approves for a lower amount
Security is upgraded.
Election goes off without a hitch.
Rubes are mad they lost.

More money and more sophisticated systems are not the answer in my opinion. Manually marked paper ballots with manual audits look like good solution. See the New York Times video for an example.
My preference would be to make sure that no ballot scanner has more intelligence than a microwave oven. No internet connection. No software updates. Just give a tally of marks in fixed locations on the paper.
