What happened to personal responsibility?
Why do you base your own behavior on some nebulous idea of what leftists do?

“Free”. Not dependent on government. “Free from restraint” - all government is restraint.
Thank you for posting it.
Do libs believe in individual rights?

Clearly I should have better explained where I was going with this thread. The intent was for more of a dialectic. For example, I have/had friends and neighbors who are liberal who I get along fine with and have had political conversations with and have found much agreement with. By and large I have not found that on internet forums and personally I believe it’s for the reasons I post in the OP. In other words why do we disagree?
The reason why you have liberal friends that you can get along with in real life, but can’t seem to accomplish the same on the internet is because in person, your instinct is to find similarities and get along, whereas the impersonal user names on a messageboard doesn’t trigger that same instinct.
I guarantee that if you actually put the effort into finding similarities rather than picking fights - which is what we’re actually all here for - you’d be able to find endless similarities and agreements here too.
The Hive Switch?
Then why the two private groups?

WuWei:
The Hive Switch?
No, its much simpler than that.
People on the internet aren’t real.

It is flowing as fast as the states sign on. Call your Governor. Or your Congressman.
They are not liberals they are progressives that’s the first thing republicans need to learn, I say Republicans because they are less and less conservatives every electorate. The progressives want to turn the U.S. into something that looks like the U.N. A conglomerate of people from every spot on the world who have absolutely nothing in common. They are wanting to completely change every fabric of the nation. No country in history has survived such a transition of people. In a little under 50 years they were able to bring in enough hispanic voters to turn California forever blue, as most of the people from south of the border tend to vote for the same policies that made their countries implode in the first place.
And if you mention that immigration is moving too fast which is what any conservative would do because that is what we believe as conservatives (Conserve what you have) not radically change it, change should come slow. As the tech companies leave and the debt piles up the emperor will be without his clothes, as that is what is keeping the clown show going on in California Silicon Valley, as they move from California because of taxation it will eventually falter.
So while all the republicans were sitting around scared to offend, the progressives managed to make the state with the most electoral votes California a perma blue state, and now Texas is in their crosshairs next. If republicans don’t so something to stop it, well for lack of a better term “Adios America”. They don’t want diversity of opinions, just skin color.
This is the demographics change of California in less than 50 years. Before everyone screams source it is “California Department of Finance”.

WuWei:
You’re real to me.
Am I, though?
It is no doubt true that we have extensively interacted on this message board. I have no doubt you have some basic idea of my political philosophy, and me yours.
But I do not share most of what makes me me, on this board - and neither do you.
To each other, we are the avatars we use to argue, and nothing else.

WuWei:
Not to me.
How can I be more than just a political avatar to you, if I’ve never shown any more of myself than what I specifically choose to share, as a political avatar?
WuWei

We never show more of ourselves than we’re willing to share in the world either.
You are real to me.
That is no doubt true.
But the fact that you are only reading my words - not hearing my voice, or seeing my face - adds an additional layer of disconnect.
That layer of disconnect allows to further disassociate the avatar with the person - and further decreases empathy.

Not to me. You have a generic avatar. It tells me nothing. Your words on the other hand…

I don’t mean “avatar” in the sense of the picture that appears next to my fictional name.

That’s the only one I know.
I mean it in a more philosophical sense.
My avatar is everything you’ve ever seen of me. It is my manifestation here.

Just like it would be in the world.
Well, no. That’s my point.
In the world, I am a person. I have a body, a voice, a face, a family, hobbies, tastes, and interests outside of politics.
In the real world, I live, I love, I feel.
My avatar argues about politics because I’m broken inside and I think it’s fun. And for the most part, that’s all it does.
