That’s the answer of someone who doesn’t do science.

Well, I’m not a “scientist”, if that’s what you mean.
Disagree. I guess we will have to wait and see how we fare compared to southern states. At least all the teachers will be vaxxed.
Kids are in school, indoors, talking for long periods of time. I don’t think a cloth mask is going to stop the spread of a highly contagious virus if some are sick. A virus with an RO of 6 or 7 is going to be stopped by an ordinary mask? Who knew? During the entire Tuberculosis problem years ago all people had to do is pull their shirt over their face? Maybe people should keep a few cloth masks on hand in case of a mustard gas attack. Just throw 2 or 3 of them on. You’re good.
Are you comparing the consumption to COVID? A bacterial infection?

I mean, how would a mask over the mouth and nose limit the spread of aerosolized mucus? How would this affect a virus that only spreads through seropositive fluids? It’s such a mystery.

No. I am comparing the rate of transmission. Delta is on par with TB with an RO of 6-7. Chickenpox, around 10-12. But a 6 to 7 is still significant. Way too high for a mask to have much of an impact other than in passing.

Unless you wear proper masks.

Of course. But a cloth or polyester mask is no different than pulling my shirt over my face. I have very breathable summer masks. How good are they? They’re just an excuse to comply to a mandate. They don’t actually do anything.
I’m not wearing an N95 mask. Not going to happen. Too restrictive.

I have em…only wear em in congested areas if I have too.
Most mask just give you false sense of security.

Absolutely. Would you wear a cloth mask to visit someone with full blown Tuberculosis? Of course not. That has the same transmission rate as the Delta virus although it is not a virus.
I don’t think masks are a bad idea. But a bad idea if people think they work like pixie dust. They are not protecting you like you think.

It’s a bacterial infection that lies dormant for months or even years, lasts for months or years and kills you through your bowels or brain. How is that the same as a respiratory virus.
Also, do you want me to tell you what they did to consumptives in this country before broad spectrum antibiotics? It’s way harsher than having to wear a mask, I’ll tell you that.
Dude, what does it matter? We’re talking about how contagious something is. How deadly is not an issue. Just how contagious, and how bootleg masks protect you from that. Do you think you are safe from the measles or mumps wearing a mask? This shouldn’t even be debated. A virus with an RO of 6 to 7 is very contagious. A mask isn’t stopping it.
No disrespect intended, but how do you know?

The spread of tuberculosis can be contained by wearing masks lol. It’s passed by mucus.

Scientist?
Am I a scientist? No. But I have had a lot of math and science at the college and graduate level.
