They have sit down multiple times over decades. A two state solution I still hear floated around sometimes isn’t even viable today it would have to be a three state solution. The West Bank doesn’t want to be joined with the Gaza Strip since Hamas took over.
They have been fighting since Israel became a state and before that for centuries. They are like vampires and werewolf’s mortal enemies. Every president has tried since the end of WW2 and the formation of Israel and they been in constant conflict since. It’s like clockwork a few years of peace then the rockets start flying.
Best to stay out of it imho. All that needs to be decided is whether or not to give Israel aid or not and that’s a dicey one more than any other taxpayer handouts we give to other countries. Because if they couldn’t defend themselves they would be wiped out in a heartbeat.

In this age of cell phone cameras, everything will be recorded and shared globally. Israel will need to tread carefully with their military. Their military might is 100 times better than the palestinians. Dropping bombs and shooting civilians will vilify them in the eye of the world. Maybe Israelis don’t care what the world thinks. Fine. But as more and more graphic videos and images come out, the public may turn on them.

My sense is that people want it to just go away. The cognitive dissonance and exhaustion created by such an intricately complex issue languishing so long is too much; causing folks to grasp at simple solutions.
But we have to resist that urge, I think. Embrace the complexity. Dig in. And use every bit of influence we have (if we want) to fix this tragic and absurd situation.
