Yes, I was on 16 flights last week. 5 as passenger and 11 as pilot. 7 states and 3 countries.

Just curious: What’s been your experience with the occupancy rate on commercial flights lately?
I live near SeaTac and still hear planes taking off, but I’ve heard that they’re only 5% full.
Apparently they’re required to keep flying to qualify for fed money, but I don’t know any details.

I’m not going to shut down anything down. What do the Trump Social Distancing Guidelines have to say about large crowds?

Sure. And the lines at Disney world will stretch all the way to downtown Orlando. Right.

The people will decide how much they are willing to put up with.

Large crowds will be manageable with daily doses of flashlights soaked in Lysol.

When you’re dead and buried, what is the minimum distance you can possibly be from any other human?

As a suppository?

2-3 weeks ago they were very empty 5-6 people on board. Now they have canceled a lot of flights and flying smaller aircraft so planes are 1/2 to 3/4 full. They originally had to keep flying to keep their gate and time slots (federal rule). That federal rule has been suspended for now. Most of my buddies that did get furloughed are still getting half pay. Others took furlough without pay and are working somewhere else and or military. They were able to keep their benefits and seniority. Not sure on the money rule. But I believe they are able to keep way more of the other airline employees paid this way.

Google it.

You’re so technical. That’s no fun. :sunglasses:

As you consider your funeral wishes, research burial grave depths in your area. Even though most would think that the legal requirement is six-feet-deep, most areas permit much shallower graves.

Yeah. I’ll get right on that. Right after I research the life expectancy of a European Swallow.

BTW. You may want to plan your own funeral. I’m gonna let somebody else plan mine.

Here is my take. Sometime back I assumed a large portion of the U.S. had contracted COVID-19 and that it had largely gone unnoticed. Similar to the flu. We are now beginning to see that to be the case.

On a yearly basis, millions of Americans contract the flu and 10’s of thousands of the most vulnerable die. I’m betting that over time we will see a very similar pattern for COVID-19. When all of the dust settles, I believe we will look back and see that we all might have overreacted.

Going forward, I believe we will all be a little more cognizant about handwashing and sanitizing. That has been the general practice during flu season, but I believe we will be paying more attention now, having dealt with COVID-19.

I believe we will eventually get back to some semblance of normalcy, but I know I will think twice about close contact with others during the traditional flu season. I’m kind of assuming we will see a similar behavior with COVID-19, in that it will die down during the summer months and pick back up when it gets colder.

My two cents.

Exactly. People should be left to decide where to go from here. The feds don’t need to be regulating behavior.

That is wrong to not keep seniority and benefits.

It would have been.

Thanks for that info.
Do you feel that commercial flying is safe at this time? Are airlines taking appropriate precautions?
I’m scheduled for a 2 hour flight on a Dash 8 to Prince Rupert in early August. I believe I picked up a bug on that flight last year.
I’m not sure I’m ready for that aluminum petrie dish again.

social distancing…

untouchables here too?

papers for the pure? deplorable badges for the rest?

Modern planes have fantastic air circulation systems they don’t just recirculate air like most people think. It will depend how old the dash 8 is. I know most companies are treating their aircraft with multiple sprays that disinfect for certain length of time. Most are using a long length one like 30 days and a short term ten days. It kills germs that come in contact with it. My opinion only is you are safer on the plane then in the terminal. I won’t name my company but we have only one person get sick total.

You going Salmon fishing? I used to go up there every summer to fish.

Social distancing can’t last forever. Eventually, it has to transform into a ā€œprotect the most vulnerableā€ strategy and increase distancing in hotspots.
