Yes, a Russian victory would be a take over the Russian-speaking areas near the Black Sea, although Kharkiv was not on the Russian list of cities of primary importance.
A Russian victory would include defeating the Ukrainian army in eastern Ukraine and taking control over Odessa. That would leave Kiev in control of central and western Ukraine.
Would the US be satisfied with that outcome?
Or would we insist that Ukraine continue to fight until all its troops are either killed or captured?
Would NATO find a pretext to send troops in to push Russian army out of areas with large Russian populations?
If you want to know what victory looks like, don’t bother asking any of us.
America doesn’t know what victory looks like.

What you should be asking is if the people of Ukraine would be satisfied with the outcome…so far the answer seems to be nyet

Not sure why you made that reply to me.
Those terms are similar to the ones that Ukraine offered to Putin.
The UK and US reportedly forced Zelensky to withdraw the offer. Since then the Russians forces have advanced, and western leaders are starting to recognize that a Russian victory is likely.
It was in response to your comment:
To me, victory would mean Russia would no longer be able to invade a neighboring country like Ukraine.
I don’t see how to achieve that without the complete defeat and occupation of Russia. The Mongols were the last to do that.
Mmmmkay. No one anywhere has ever called for that.
…with Putin 6 feet below this.
I gave other possibilities in that reply.
They’re all long shots.
To be blunt, I doubt there will be real victory for anyone.

I assume it will end with an armistice and then negotiations. Russia if they’re lucky might get to keep Sevastopol. Even the putatively pro-Russian eastern regions are in full uprisings now.

If there are really 25,000 Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine and their moms find out their sons died for nothing, that might end it for Putin.

deal breaker. russia has no say when or if ant nation is admitted to nato. none of their concern.
The idea is to take away all of Russia’s ammo and “justifications” and put them on legally binding treaty paper. It’s placating them a bit, but that’s how negotiations usually turn out. You have to push and pull.
Ukraine would still be allowed to join the European Union and integrate into Europe immediately after the treaty was signed. Only NATO membership would be delayed but it wouldn’t be out of the question. They could join at a later date once tensions from the war had settled down and perhaps NATO and Russia could hash out some sort of long term agreement in the meantime in regards to future relations.
As of now, there’s no high level official contact between Russia and NATO. That’s a bit of a problem in regards to the nuclear weapons both sides possess. That needs to be hashed out in the near future.
no, absolutely not. russia gets no say in who or when anyone joins nato… ever. nato does not answer to russia, it is the answer to russia.
They wouldn’t get a say on whether they actually joined or not after the cool down time.
The point would be to give the Russians (hopefully a different Russian administration) a place where they could lay out their security concerns and we respond accordingly. To avoid misunderstandings.
For example, the one big thing Russia would be concerned about is NATO stationing short range and intermediate ranges nuclear ballistic missiles or cruise missiles (the INF is dead now thanks to Putin) on Ukrainian soil.
