I’d say characterizing “Jews this” or “Jews that” is downplaying it yeah. “Musk tried to walk that back” with the “that” being “Jews this/that”.

Nah. He passed on about some statement about how Jewish politics favored the sort of things that are causing anti Israeli activity now. It was a statement of little import, not backed up, and quite possibly wrong…and used by others to make preposterous charges of antisemitism.
It’s like the leftist “everything I disagree with is racist” spiel.
