Not to mention it would be expensive and impractical to have a President who’s, say, traveling overseas fly back just to put a wet ink signature on something. Similarly problematical to fly documents around just for a signature when alternate means are available.

Yet, they did that before Obama because they felt it was important legislation was actually signed by the President.

The Justice Department makes the assumption that the President knows that the autopen is being used. It’s not clear that Biden did.

That’s the problem.

The people behind the scenes could have easily been using the autopen on things Biden had no clue about.
