I also own 2 hybrids, one is a plug in.

I also try to shop locally owned businesses, including farmers market of locally grown food.

Chuck also has no plan to reduce his own carbon output. He’s rich. He doesn’t have to. You’re the one he wants to punish. Punished by a hypocrite who demands sacrifice from you but is totally unwilling to give up anything himself. He’s using you. And you’re letting him.

What is he demanding I sacrifice that he won’t?

I have already explained this. This is really simple stuff. What exactly do you think Chuck will be sacrificing? Is he going to turn his A/C off to save the planet? Is he going to reduce the number of flights he takes? Will he be driving less? Will his maid be drying his clothes on the line for him? Will he get a rain barrel? Or will he simply continue as he is and not worry about how much extra it will cost him for energy. Because he’s filthy freaking rich. He want’s you to pay more. He want’s you to alter your life. If he was willing to alter his, he would already be doing it and using himself as an example.

It’s very disappointing that you are not catching on to this. Is there any hope you will?

I’m totally getting it. You’re creating a strawman out of Chuck Schumer. The articles linked here aren’t Schumer saying we have to use clothes lines and get rid of our A/Cs while he doesn’t. Its him pushing the infrastructural bill. Can you point to me where in the infrastructure bill it says that I will have to sacrifice these perks of modern life while the rich continue to have them?

Liberals do care about China. But our options are limited when dealing with a giant and dishonorable country that has nuclear weapons and owns a lot of our debt. Geopolitics are complicated.

Schumer is an American legislator, not a Chinese one. He can’t create infrastructure legislation for China, so yea, he’s going to focus on his own backyard and not the one he has little ability to change.

In a hot and humid environment like the Deep South, cutting your A/C on and off like you described is less efficient than leaving it running all the time at a slightly higher temperature.

I leave my central air set on 74 degrees. It’s comfortable for me and it’s more efficient than turning it off when leaving for work and then turning it on when I get home where the unit has to struggle to lower the temperature from the mid to high 80s (the interior temperature of my trailer) to 74 during the hottest time of the day. The unit does it job, cutting off and on when needed to keep the temperature at or close to 74.

Otherwise I agree with much of what you posted. I would love to see nuclear expanded tenfold in this country. Had I been in charge in the 1970s I would have modeled our power grid on France’s. 75% of their power generation is nuclear. We should have went down the same path.

I do find some of my coworkers to be a little insane with their AC. My boss has central air set on 64 plus two extra window units. His trailer isn’t that much bigger than mine. To me it’s pretty wasteful and needlessly raises your power bill to keep your house that cold. My ex was even worse than that.

I drove my truck without AC for two years, and my current daily driver doesn’t have AC either. And growing up with my grandparents, they kept their unit set on like 79 or 80 so it rarely kicked on and it was hot as all nonsense in the house I grew up in. But I’m thankful I lived like that because I function just fine without constant, super cold AC.

IF you believe in climate change then you need to help save the planet. Do away with A/C completely. Hang your clothes on a clothes line & get rid of your dryer. Get solar power. Don’t fly or drive a car. DO YOUR PART!

Still, we’re looking at around 17 to 18k for a Prius with between 50-75 thousand miles. That’s about a 10k drop. Not enough IMO.

The Prius came in at a little under a 10 second 0-60. Similar to a Corolla. If they had a race it would be decided by whoever hit the gas pedal first. That’s 2008 Toyota Yaris time. If I’m going to get Yaris power, I want Yaris price.
