The future chairman of the House Democratic Caucus announced Wednesday that his party may be prepared to fund “enhanced border fencing” and other security measures to re-open the federal government.

New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries was speaking with CNN when he was asked to comment on a potential budget agreement after his party takes control of Congress Thursday; saying “We’re going to allocate $1.3 billion in additional funding” to “improve security measures.”

“We’re going to allocate $1.3 billion in additional funding to allow for enhanced technology, cell phone towers, satellites, drones, enhanced fencing, increased communication capability, the things that the experts have said are necessary to improve border security,” said Jeffries.
