Are you referring to the touchpads that laptops have? Those still shouldn’t cost $300, unless you’re choosing to buy from someone jacking up the price…or it’s because there are a bunch of middlemen getting paid along the way.

No this is a corded mouse type thing that you run on the desktop.

The only “ergonomic” mouse approaching $300 was something like this:

If someone is selling a “traditional” ergonomic mouse like this:

Or some other variation, they are scammers overselling their product’s price.

And the Dirty Little Secret of most Fortune 500 companies? It isn’t limited to the government either. You’ll find prodigious waste and corruption in any organization of sufficient size. You could fairly argue that this is why we need a smaller federal government, and I wouldn’t disagree. But government in and of itself is no less necessary, and no more evil, than big business.
