The US laundered billions of dollars through NGOs to support the overthrow the elected President of Ukraine in 2014. The result was the installation of a puppet government that has been totally dependent on western aid and under the domination of ultranationalist paramilitaries supported by western intel agencies. That is clear in this famous clip of Biden bragging about getting the Ukrainian prosecutor fired by threatening to interupt critical aid.
Zelensky won the 2019 election in a landslide as a peace candidate. Soon after the election, the US State Department and US-backed NGOs listed “red lines” to prevent Zelensky from peacefully resolving the civil war in eastern Ukraine. In addition to cuts in critical aid, the letter included an implied threat of another coup:
Should the President cross these red lines, such actions will inevitably lead to political instability in our country and the deterioration of international relations.
The message was clear–peace was not an option. The wishes of Ukrainian voters are irrelevant.
While theoretically Trump could have overruled the State Department, he had been subjected to three years of investigations involving sham charges of Russia collusion. He also faced the first bogus impeachment trial based on brief delays involving aid to Ukraine. The subversion of constitutional government in the quest of war with Russia has not been limited to Ukraine.

We fought the American Revolution to free ourselves from a global colonial empire, not to subjugate nations on the other side of the world to create one of our own.
The US is a constitutional republic, not an empire. The government in Washington is supposed to serve the American people. Instead elements in Washington have engaged in an endless series of overseas wars with little to no oversight from the elected government. The top priorities have been profits of arms merchants and pretexts for ending civil rights of Americans.

There was nothing in the Revolution or in the resulting Constitution that restricts the use of power to domestic purposes. What you are calling a limitation (“not supposed to”) is nothing more than a morally subjective ideal.

Neocon propaganda from Washington that the US has been intervention has been about defending “democracy and freedom” in Ukraine. The reality is just the opposite. It has been about using Ukraine as puppet state to prevent a negotiated settlement to the civil war that started in 2014 and to provoke war with Russia.

That is certainly true for people in the areas of Ukraine that were part of Poland until they were annexed in the Soviet Union during WW2. This area includes the Ukrainian part of Galicia, which was ruled by Austria for more than a century between the 1772 partition of Poland and the end of WW1.
This region is violently anti-Russian. It was the home territory of the SS Galizien Division and the UPA who fought on the German side during WW2. Elements of these groups continued a guerrilla war against the Soviet Union and the Communist government of Poland after the end of WW2.
Moscow has repeatedly said that Russia has zero interest in this part of Ukraine and considers Stalin’s annexation of the area to be a major blunder. The Russians would be happy to let Poland take it back.

The US and its NATO allies repeatedly intervened in Yugoslavia to protect the rights of people in Kosovo, Bosnia, Croatia, etc. Yet Yugoslavia never posed any threat to the US.
The US invaded Iraq in 2003 using grossly exaggerated allegations of WMDs in a country 5000 miles away. In contrast there is ample evidence of that US-funded biolabs and US-funded paramilitaries were on the borders of Russia before the beginning of the SMO.

no, they do not. They have the right to petition their own government (Ukraine) about whatever they wish. The Ukrainian constitution provides for any region to secede if they succeed in a national vote. They have no such right to just do it, and Russia has no such right to invade them.
