i don’t know, niether do you. point of fact is he gave them lethal aid when biden would not. i think he would have continued to give them lethal aid, and demanded europe do more. i seriously doubt he would have stopped poland and romania from giving the aircraft as it would have been an oportunity to sell them upgraded nato aircraft. he would not have stood in the way of transfering tanks, for the same reason.

I’m not interested in this being a Trump thread cuz sheesh we’ve done that to death everywhere else…but…the dude should hush his mouth about Russia beating the US when this turns to WW III. Come on man…let’s present a united front.

Well we just upgraded Ukraine’s ADA coverage. They now have NASAMS, a short to medium range guided system that networks multiple proven missile and gun systems with a 3d radar detection network. From what I have read this system is in its 3d level of advancement, can integrate AIM120 AMRAAMs and AIM9X Sidewinders with radar aimed Swedish 40mm Bofors guns and laser guided Swedish RBS 70 tripod mounted point defense ADA misiles. This system provides a layered ADA defense from point defense out to 25 km under one command and control system. It is effective against drones, helicopters, missiles and high performance aircraft.

Yeah, the whole “politics stopping at the water’s edge” thing is another norm that has been discarded.

I literally have no idea what any of that means but it sounds bad ass.

Think multiple weapons systems, each with a different engagement envelope, with their targeting and fire control networked in a single integrated system. Add advanced 3D radar and the ability to engage multiple threats at the same time. Apparently one of these systems is now protecting Kiev.

The AIM120 is our premier radar guided air to air missile, carried by our fighters. The AIM9X is our premier hear seeking air to air missile, The system created mobile ground based box launchers for these missiles. Sweden helped develop it and added the radar guided 40mm Bofors and the point defense missile. The system can control multiple launchers and guns at the same time. The radar system isn’t located with the launchers/guns. It is networked with them and controls them from a central command post, located somewhere else. The AIM120s in their extended range version can engage out to 30 miles. The AIM9s out to 6 miles. The point defense systems are a last line of defense covering the last 1-1 1/2 mile to the defended location. There is some discussion of the ability to integrate the Patriot Missile system.

As a side note, it had to be programed to not automatically designate Mig 29s as a threat.

Hey perhaps I missed it @e7alr but how come you are so well versed in all of this?
40km. and it can process 72 targets at one time. once deployed and integrated into ukraines defenses, it should give them the capability to establish more than localized air superiority for longer periods of time. this should put the ukranian airforce back in business on a more permanent basis. the will do for ukranian air what himars have done for them on the ground

It has all the hallmarks of an exceptional system. All of the weapons are long term proven systems, with several generations of improvement. The integrated command and control combining the systems and proven 3D Radar, with the ability to disperse the components to increase survival of the system makes this a serious area defense system. It isn’t a tactical system. This is designed to protect high value targets. They are supposed to get 6. They need at least 20-30. This system, in mass, would effectively neuter the long range standard missile and air strike capability of the Russians… The only thing it might not be able to handle is hypersonics.

I was trained to prepare the intelligence annex portion of army operations orders. A major portion of that is the threat assessment. A large part of that included order of battle on potential adversaries of the US. My specialty also had staff responsibility for integration of strategic and tactical deception operations into the operations order in conjunction with the Operations Staff of the supported command. Later in my career I was a primary author of the supervisors course for my specialty and one of the first instructors for the course at the Intelligence Center and School. I retired from active duty a long time ago.

Well shoot. Thanks for your expertise. It’s refreshing to simply have an interesting conversation here and for me to learn a few things- even if there are disagreements.

I have tried to keep the topic circling back to the conflict and its developments since I started this topic. There has been a lot of good discussion and some interesting alignment of thought among the various posters in here.

I didn’t get the impression they did that at all.
Where are you hearing this?
He really said that?
He is severely underestimating US forces if that is the case. The conventional Russian military can’t even defeat Ukraine.
Although to be fair, if it escalated into full scale nuclear war, both the US and Russia (and the rest of the world) would lose. So I guess he’s partially right.
Are you sure?
Because that would be an amateur mistake in the game of nuclear brinkmanship. Or just brinkmanship in general.
I haven’t seen any articles about the details.

Obviously we don’t know what Putin and his inner circle are thinking. I’ve been over in the thread on the pipe line attack. While I don’t think either us, or Russia are responsible at this point. I can only think of one reason Russia would damage their own pipeline. A false flag to try to move the public opinion needle in Russia.
they are getting 16, the number was increased
and now, if i were a russian, capturing one of these things would be high on the wish list. i hope we are smart enough to make sure they’re secure
lol… no wonder it felt so familiar.
and it was my job to take the intelligence you provided and develop and execute a fire plan integrating artillery, air and sea firepower assets which i did all the way from platoon level at the beginning to division at the end of my career. i was the first (and only) non commissioned aero scout, warrant, and pilot training instructor at the army aviation school and i wrote and/or proofed all of the training materials used by the school to teach fire support for all levels of courses taught there.
