WAR in Ukraine, Putin approves initiation of special military operation (Part 1)

**Look at how they’re stepping up. Look at how they’re stepping up. **

> And you’re going to see when you’re there. And you — some — some of you have been there. You’re going to see — you’re going to see women, young people standing — standing the middle of — in front of a damn tank, just saying, “I’m not leaving. I’m holding my ground.” They’re incredible. But they take a lot of inspiration from us.

And, you know, the woman who just died — the Secretary of State — used to have an expression. She said, “We are the essential nation.” It sounds like a bit of a hyperbole, but the truth of the matter is you are the organizing principle around which the rest of the world is — the free world is moving.

Same here. Of course that decision is Ukraine’s.

Isn’t this always a risk though? The only variable being the degree?

Im trying to imagine how Putin reacts if Ukraine uses Western arms to roll into the Donbas and Crimea. At that point he is truly shamed, truly beaten. I do fear how he would react at that point. I think the chance of escalation is quite high.

And really you are right- that decision is Ukraine’s alone. We shall see.

I understand. It galls me to no end that Putin might get rewarded for this aggression.

Yup- it would be maddening. Maybe there is a lesser settlement that both can abide. Donbas and Crimea become independent neutral states? Hard to imagine because unless there are security agreements Russia can just retake the land whenever they want.

And I think that’s the rub: Putin is going to learn from this disaster, reform and re-equip the army, and try again. If not Putin, his successor. I think that makes a Ukranian security guarantee essential.

Inquiring minds want to know.

I was promised daily televised shaming of Nato and the West…what a disappointment.

Are world leaders now confusing virtual world and real world? Maybe too many computer games.

This was what was put out by the Russian Embassy.

So it looks like it is Russia being childish.

Either they want to negotiate and have an off ramp to this major ■■■■ up they got themselves into, or they want to act like petulant children.

They can’t have it both ways.

We’re all happy that Putin is getting his butt kicked right?

Right?

Why not?

Something like Cyprus perhaps or declare Crimea an independent demilitarized state.

Neither side deserves it whole.

sending weapons is the only thing he’s done right. who wouldn’t have? its not genius, its just the minimum requirement.

and that “sometime in the future” was completely under russia;s control. so unless russia let it happen it was not possible, ever.

What’s it been, a month? Look at that freakishly clean looking city. Lights all on, buildings all standing and stuff.

You’d think there was a war going on or something.

the thing to do here is hard, but simple. ukraine should give up crimea and the donbass in exchange for peace and nato membership.

I basically just said the same thing but I’m pretty sure that Ukraine won’t abide that- especially as they are inflicting major damage on the Russian army. Maybe Crimea stays in Russias hands but things are going to get very sticky in the Donbas.

Mutually exclusive.
