The Russian pace should not be that surprising. It is Europe, not the open deserts of the Middle East. And this is the Russian Army, not the US Army. The most significant issue is the now clearly demonstrated deficiencies in Russian Logistics operations. Now they have not fought a Corps and above sized war since 1945. And they haven’t probably practiced large scale logistics since the 80s. As @SneakySFDude said, logistics are what experts at war look at, and it is where wars are won or lost. I do expect the Russians to resort to the “King of Battle” on a grand scale soon. And I don’t expect them to care what observers think about it. War, after all, is a street fight, not a golden gloves boxing match, or a staged professional wrestling display. To the victor goes life and the spoils, to the loser goes only destruction and death.

The thing about that last part is if Putin starts leveling cities, I can see the Western nations starting to seize the Oligarch’s properties.

That will not play well.

It will have consequences of course. Putin has his GRU and FSB inner circle, and the Wagner Group (possibly a GRU cover instead of contractors). The oligarchs could represent a threat, but Putin will not hesitate to kill anyone, including them, who he perceives as a domestic threat. And the oligarchs are not some shadow council actually running the country. They have survived at his pleasure, and are under his intelligence service’s watch.

Well, that’s the thing about the world we live in - and have lived in, for the last 75 or so years.

Putin has the power to end the world. So does the President of the United States. That’s just the reality.

Putin has to know there’s no winning a nuclear exchange - this has been well-understood by both sides for at least 50 years.

If you’re asking if he’ll just destroy the world rather than lose, I doubt it. But it’s not out of the realm of possibility, and hasn’t been for a long time.

No I don’t mean lose I mean like if the people go hungry there he is humiliated and instead of stepping down like no dictator ever does he decides to go down and takes us with him. I mean he is talking nuclear war right now. The same people saying he wouldn’t invade Ukraine are saying he won’t go nuclear I am starting to take his crazy self more at his word.
