What the hell are these attorney’s thinking. Objecting to a NON citizens vote being thrown out – they are NOT allowed to vote in the federal election, and I dare someone to find me a Florida law that they are allowed to vote in gubanatorial election!

“First one of these we’ve seen,” said Judge August Bonativa.

“Not a U.S. citizen, not counted.” said Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher, according to the transcript.

It was at this point where lawyers representing Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum and Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., issued objections – although they did not give reasons for those objections. The objections were noted, but the vote was still not counted.

At least there was a court reporter there to note the objections.

Nelson (the candidate) main attorney apparently thinks it was a non citizen vote as well, and walked back the objection. WOnder why Gillum hasn’t responded?

How would the Supervisor of Elections, Susan Bucher, know the citizenship status of someone who voted? Any decent lawyer would object because once the ballot is rejected it can’t be reversed… These types of hearings are typical in a contested race like this and snippets like this, without actually understanding what’s going on make great presidential tweets and sensational news articles but don’t really educate the public on how elections are conducted.

Could be the name was previously flagged in the voter rolls, and when they look at the ballot and the name, you would know that it’s a non citizen vote.

LAMO… Easy for Nelson to make that claim since there are no consequences… The ballot and voter will now be examined… How do we know who the vote was for: Nelson or Gillum? You seem to be assuming the was for Gillum…

Guess again. Non citizens can fairly easily get on vote rolls, and sometimes they catch it after the fact.

Could have happened in this case that the name was on the rolls and flaged after as a non citizen.

It’s amusing that you post an article about Pennsylvania voter registration for a Florida election issue. Are you assuming Florida and Pennsylvania have the sames registration processes and requirements?

Nobody is “flagged” on Florida voter rolls, they are removed. Since this was a provisional ballot, they were not on the voter rolls to begin with or they wouldn’t have received a provisional ballot.

Now the canvasing board can investigate the voter and the voter will have an opportunity to demonstrate whether or not they qualify to vote.

Appears to be just plain utter incompetence in Broward County.

Broward officials said they mistakenly counted 22 absentee ballots that had been rejected, mostly because the signature on the return envelope did not match the one on file.

Soooooooooooooo what do they do wtih the in-elligible, invalid votes?

It is a problem that appears impossible to fix because the ballots were mixed in with 205 legal ballots.

“#BrowardElections office admits the vote count they submitted to state includes 22 illegal votes,” Florida GOP Senator Marco Rubio wrote on Twitter Sunday. “We know about these 22 because they got caught breaking law in reviewing 202 ballots. How can anyone trust more illegal votes aren’t in their final count?”

Nationalize elections for federal positions (house and senate) and the state positions will follow… Create uniform election laws across all states including registration… Should take care of the problem …
