A U.S. Army veteran who was arrested during an immigration raid at a Southern California marijuana farm last week said Wednesday he was sprayed with tear gas and pepper spray before being dragged from his vehicle and pinned down by federal agents who arrested him.
George Retes, 25, who works as a security guard at Glass House Farms in Camarillo, said he was arriving at work on July 10 when several federal agents surrounded his car and — despite him identifying himself as a U.S. citizen — broke his window, peppered sprayed him and dragged him out.
From my experience with law enforcement, they usually ask you to roll down your window, open the door, or step out before smashing your window.
All in all, if they arrested over 360 people that shouldn’t be here, and made a mistake with one guy that refused to exit the vehicle, I’d call it successful.
He must have disobeyed the orders.
If he stepped out of the car I am sure they wouldn’t have pepper-sprayed him.

The guy wasn’t sprayed “for coming to work”.

He was participating in an operation that was using blatant illegalities. When authorities intervened to stop the illegal practices, he defied their work. Your link even mentioned opposition to the raid: “Protesters faced off against federal agents in military-style gear…”
He was a security guard at the farm. He surely had to know there were illegalities occurring there.
The title of the linked article is likewise spin. “Veteran and US citizen arrested by ICE warns it could happen to anyone” It could happen to anyone who dances with the people participating in the illegal practices. It could happen to anyone interfering with the enforcement of laws against these illegal practices. But it’s not going to happen to just anyone.
