It is with great sadness that Bob Hawke the longest serving Australian Labor Party Prime Minister has died today aged 89. As Prime Minister his legacy with Paul Keating (Treasurer) includes Medicare, Superannuation Guarantee Levy, modernised our economy that has allowed us to have almost 30 years of continuous economic growth.

As President of the ACTU Australian workers continue to enjoy the benefits to this day. His government saved the Franklin River, Daintree Rainforest and fought against mining in Antartica.

A Rhodes Scholar and larrikin (including holding a world yard glass drinking record. when he was at University. Australia is the poorer for his passing today.
