Thing that makes me skeptical…we have never had a successful vaccine for any coronavirus that infects humans. We have developed some for animals…but they are extremely short-lived and require multiple injections per year.

Granted…until SARS and MERS, coronaviruses caused mostly mild colds, so not a lot of effort was put into finding one, but still…

Thing that makes me hopeful…while RNA viruses do mutate a lot, this one actually does not…or rather, the coding region that codes for the spike protein is very well conserved despite other mutations.

But thinking we will have one by year end is wishful thinking in the extreme.

I think the economy is going to outrun the vaccine, making it useless if it is developed. Maybe COVID-24…

My Antibodies. :sunglasses:

Do a search for a company called Moderna.

I was going to post something about this, very encouraging news today.

Stage two testing was a success, 45/45 patients developed antibodies, with even the smallest dose eliciting a response. The 100 mcg dose looks to be the winner though, the response was very robust. the 250 mcg dose seems to be too much.

Yeah, but look at them now…

Valid point, we have rushed vaccines in the past that turned out to be harmful.

I’m pretty sure Moderna is a subsidiary of Umbrella Corp.

Yes, I’m kidding. But messing with rna sounds like the beginning of Omega Man, admittedly redone better with Will Smith in I Am Legend.

What is interesting about Moderna is that this is not a classic vaccine, which usually involves exposing the patient to attenuated or dead virus for the immune response.

They use mRNA, or messenger RNA, to teach the body how to create antibodies on its own.

One pitfall is that the long term response on mRNA “vaccines” may be short lived, but safety wise it looks very promising. mRNA technology can be use to teach the body how to combat cancer cells as well. There are a lot of cool applications with this science. If I was a young guy, this is the science I would have gotten into. It’s very cool stuff.

How can you determine 25% effectiveness?

I’ve been following them closely, it looks very promising so far.

Making safe vaccines is no longer much of an issue, the biggest issue is ensuring we have one that is effective and that’s where things can get very tricky due to a lot of factors but mainly because of how rapidly some pathogens mutate.

It would be so ironic if another country developed a vaccine first And then proceeded to charge the US an absolute fortune.

Free market at play baby.

The US got 99 problems, a check ain’t one.

We could always just invade and take it.

Oh i know the US has deep pockets but It would be hilarious to see the US getting charged billions. Not going to happen but a man can dream

And now you know why nobody likes englishmen.

LOL, Brits and Aussies are welcome everywhere in the world.

Not hardly.

Libs don’t seem to have much faith in Biden.
