If she’s on sub’s she’s got more guts than I do. I had two rides on them and found it disconcerting as all get out to be below the surface in a steel coffin. First and only time in my life I knew what it was like to be claustrophobic.

Currently she is at San Diego learning the new Sonar gear and E6 (First Class Petty Officer) school then off to wherever the Navy sends her. She will be on @Safiel’s favorite LCS class.

The falsifications have everything to do with this issue.

Our Navy put them on the sub thinking they’d work, thanks to those falsifications and they didn’t work.

That’s a lot of money down the toilet.

But we don’t know how it will work…in particular the coating that doesn’t have a workable adhesive.

Would the boat have gone to sea if they’d known that the adhesives were going to peel off like that? Or would the Navy have worked with the contractor to get them to get working adhesive before they’d gone out?

What percentage was lost? Since it’s only a small patch we know the adhesive does work. Apparently there may have been a workmanship issue on that part of the skin.

Since you posted this in the Politics section I presume you are implying that there is a degree of incompetence and/or indolence by those in charge of that department. What step(s) do you think should be taken?

It is not the incompetence of any particular set of persons, rather it is long running institutional incompetence.

George Bush was still President when this particular boat was ordered. Most of her construction took place during the Obama administration. Trump was President during the final stages of construction and her commissioning. So both parties have shared power and many officials have come and gone. Congress has changed hands between parties.

The incompetence transcends any one party.

And due to the political structure, it may be unstoppable. Congress feeds the defense industry. The defense industry feeds Congressmen with campaign donations. And voters like defense jobs in their districts.

Trying to solve this issue is going to be extremely difficult, if not impossible.

This is HIGHLY unscrupulous and hard to believe it’s even legal.

One thing I will point out in light of all the responses in this thread.

This latest occurrence didn’t happen in a vacuum and must be considered in the context of similar failures. Problems with engines in newly delivered ships. Other significant problems.

Then the vast swath of corruption in the Navy, of which the Fat Leonard Scandal is only the most notable.

Then there is the sheer incompetence demonstrated that has resulted in two major wrecks and other minor collisions.

Altogether, it paints a very unflattering and troubling picture of the Navy.

If the Navy was humming along with no problems and suddenly this situation occurred, that might be one thing.

But in the overall scheme of things, it is just more evidence that the Navy has major problems.
