Why not some kind of non-reflective paint.

I have to admit I always thought it was some kind of paint, not some kind of thing they had to glue on to the sub.

Well that’s what I thought as well but it’s some kind of rubberized spray they put on that sticks to materials of sub.

It’s that expansion and retraction that causing to to peel off specially the highly ionized steel with salt water.

That one article said tile but pictures that Safiel posted looks more like a spray on.

Maybe @Samm can explain better but IMO what you need is two materials that ca expand and retract independent from each other. Again just thinking out loud.

I hate to break it to you Saf but humans are flawed and there will be mistakes made in every human endeavor.

They’ll figure out what went wrong, fix it and hopefully avoid similar problems in the future.

This isn’t a simple mistake.

These people are a bunch of ******* crooks.

Then again, perhaps the manufacturer of the coating and contractor who applied it followed the specifications to a tee and that it was the design of the product and specifications that were flawed.

Not that out to lunch. I was thinking last night of a way to use something akin to heat shrink tubing with adhesive that would give a uniform bond and body for the length of the boat.

If she’s on sub’s she’s got more guts than I do. I had two rides on them and found it disconcerting as all get out to be below the surface in a steel coffin. First and only time in my life I knew what it was like to be claustrophobic.

She isn’t on a sub, she hunts them…lol
Currently she is at San Diego learning the new Sonar gear and E6 (First Class Petty Officer) school then off to wherever the Navy sends her. She will be on @Safiel’s favorite LCS class.

The falsifications have everything to do with this issue.

Our Navy put them on the sub thinking they’d work, thanks to those falsifications and they didn’t work.

That’s a lot of money down the toilet.

But we don’t know how it will work…in particular the coating that doesn’t have a workable adhesive.

Would the boat have gone to sea if they’d known that the adhesives were going to peel off like that? Or would the Navy have worked with the contractor to get them to get working adhesive before they’d gone out?

What percentage was lost? Since it’s only a small patch we know the adhesive does work. Apparently there may have been a workmanship issue on that part of the skin.
