Universal Income Instead Of "Itemized Welfare"

Ok. Isnt everything then, that the government does “general welfare”? How do you separate good welfare from bad? Roads, schools, police, military, etc.

Why are you ok with states and not the federal government?

The key word is general, everyone and anyone can use a road, not everyone qualifies for welfare. And oh, by the way, in order for the feds to build roads, Eisenhower claimed it was a matter of national security, not general welfare.

And under OP, everyone would qualify for same universal income. You said you were opposed to welfare “in any form”. So, if its a service for everyone, it is ok?

National security is a form of welfare by your posted definition.

No, because it violates the taking clause. The fed has no business seizing my property without due process for anything that is not an expressly enumerated power in the constitution.

And under the OP, i didnt say seizing property. I said to create the money. Did you even read the thread?

Creating that much money will devalue my money, that is the same as taking it.

So if universal income applies to everyone, and is funded by the creation of money (not taxed) is it constitutional and “good” welfare?

I already addressed this.

It devalues everyone’s. Plus, we are replacing all current welfare systems.

Wrong. You are cherry picking criteria and not consistently applying it

It does not harm everyone equally, its just another socialist redistribution of wealth. No thanks.

The lions share of welfare goes to the elderly, disabled and children.

I am applying it consistently. Argue defense is a form of general welfare all you like, the difference is, it is an expressly enumerated federal power under our constitution and so is permissible.

It isnt redistribution. The federal government owns its currency. In fact, it is LESS a form of redistribution than the current system since everyone receives the same benefit. And everyone is bound to the same prices of goods in the market

Most of whom I would think have people capable of work who love them. Let them pay.

And so is general welfare.

No its not.

Are we going to cut taxes as well? Will there be a provision that they cannot subsequently be raised again? Because I have a feeling the answer to both of those questions is, no.

But you know full well everyone isn’t impacted equally by inflation.
