Missed this by about a month. :smile:

The main headline. The Tories got brutalized. The secondary headline is that the Unionists in Northern Ireland also got brutalized.

The Tories lost 1,063 local councilmen, while Labour gained 537, LibDems gained 407 and Greens gained 241.

For the first time since 2002, Labour has the largest plurality of local councilmen.

Labour has 71 Councils, having gained 22 Councils
Tories have 33 Councils, having lost a staggering 48 Councils.
LibDems have 29 Councils, having gained 12 Councils.
The Green Party now controls 1 Council, the first time it has ever controlled at Council.
92 Councils have no overall control, an increase of 12 Councils.
2 Councils are under Independent control, an increase of 1 Council.
UKIP has ceased to exist, having lost all 25 of its councilmen.

Just as importantly, Sinn Féin prevailed for the first time over Unionist Parties in a number of Northern Ireland constituencies.

And January 28, 2025, will be here far sooner than any Tory wants to imagine. :smile:

The day all the bills come due for Boris Johnson, etc.

I have to wonder if Sunak will even lead the Tories into the next election.

If they lose the two upcoming unexpected by elections the knives will be out for him.

Actually, by my calculations, Sunak will not be a Member of Parliament after the next General Election.

At the current polling numbers, Sunak’s constituency of Yorkshire will likely swing Labour.

I am not sure Sunak will be dumped. Every Conservative Member of Parliament knows that the Tories will be wiped out on January 28th, 2025.

As an MP, would you or I want to be the poor bastard in charge of the Conservative Party on that day. :smile:

I think the few Tory survivors of the 2025 slaughter will then jockey for leadership of the party.

The local elections, while bad, were not that bad for the Tories.

The average swing to Labour would not be enough to give them a majority.

The bad news is that Labour seems to be overperforming in the seats that need bigger swings for them to win.

And the lib dems bit deeply into the blue wall, so the Tories are getting squeezed from two directions.

Since then the polls are not getting any better for Sunak and the open rebellion from Johnson and his lickspittles triggering by electrons is his worst nightmare.

An october general election is now very much in play.

I would disagree with your first statement. It was an absolute slaughter. Over 1,000 councilmen and 48 councils lost qualifies as a slaughter in my book. :smile:

But beyond that, the Tories approving Boris Johnson’s corrupt “retirement” honors list was pretty much the same as slitting their own throats.

It is almost like they are trying to get destroyed at this point.

The worst case scenario for Labour is 400 MPs.

The Tories have dug too deep a hole to escape and they are still actively digging that hole.
