UN Security Council scheduled to discuss Ukrainian biolabs

Reports are that a Security Council meeting is scheduled to discuss concerns from Russia and China about US-supported biological research labs in Ukraine.

This comes after a bizarre statement from Victoria Nuland at a US Senate hearing:

When asked whether Ukraine possesses “chemical or biological weapons,” Nuland did not deny this: at all. She instead — with palpable pen-twirling discomfort and in halting speech, a glaring contrast to her normally cocky style of speaking in obfuscatory State Department officialese — acknowledged: “uh, Ukraine has, uh, biological research facilities.” Any hope to depict such "facilities” as benign or banal was immediately destroyed by the warning she quickly added: “we are now in fact quite concerned that Russian troops, Russian forces, may be seeking to, uh, gain control of [those labs], so we are working with the Ukrainiahhhns [sic] on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces should they approach” — [interruption by Sen. Rubio]:

A deleted report from 2010 had this to say about US-supported labs in Ukraine:

U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar applauded the opening of the Interim Central Reference Laboratory in Odessa, Ukraine, this week, announcing that it will be instrumental in researching dangerous pathogens used by bioterrorists.

The level-3 bio-safety lab, which is the first built under the expanded authority of the Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction program, will be used to study anthrax, tularemia and Q fever as well as other dangerous pathogens.

Meanwhile the US State Department has issued a non-denial denial. No one is claiming that the US owns the labs in Ukraine. No one is claiming that the labs have anything to with chemical weapons.

Why would the US choose to support biolabs to study to dangerous pathogens in Ukraine?

Why haven’t the pathogens been destroyed long before the arrival of Russian forces?

A country having a biological research facility does not mean that they are weaponizing.

Seriously… what happened to Glenn Greenwald?

All of this is a blatant attempt for Russia to backfill in a Casus Belli for their Imperial designs and the pro Putin Right and the Assansgist horseshoe left have no problem helping them along.

It’s crazy.

The difference between “weaponizing” and “studying” is subtle in State-Department-ese.

A lab could manufacture germs that could result in another pandemic, but that is not a weapon unless there is intent to release the germs in a biological attack.

By this logic, an AK-47 is not a weapon so long as the owner uses it for target practice or for testing body armor.

Russia is trying to backfill in a casus belli.

Two weeks ago it was NAZIs.

Now it is this.

When this fails it will be something else.

Why help them along?

Disarmament was stated from the beginning. Disarmament of nuclear bio and chemical weapons is suddenly added when their progress is a bit slower than they anticipated. But yeah you are still running with Russian propaganda and wholeheartedly too

Yes, the original justification was to destroy Soviet bioweapons. The Soviet Union has been gone for over 30 years. Haven’t we destroyed all the Soviet-era bioweapons by now?

The off chance that a cache of ancient bioweapons might be discovered is hardly justification to keep building new biolabs.

Okay, the reason for building all the new biolabs in Ukraine is to deal with destroying Soviet era weapons?

Or to attack a country. Just stop.

The claim is coming from kremlin that it is bioweapons. They never made the claim in prelude to the attack. Full stop. They are now making the claim because….

And also i can officially say ■■■■ Glenn Greenwald.

Much ado over nothing.

Sorta like Colin Powell at the UN.

Allan

Nuland and Rubio claimed that any release of the dangerous pathogens from Ukrainian labs would have to be a Russian false flag. That sounds like an evidence-free conspiracy theory to me.

Why are all these dangerous pathogens in a country as unstable as Ukraine to begin with?

Why has the US been funding this work?

Well I hope the Russians can provide more evidence than “Victoria Nuland was nervous when she spoke”.

Should be fun…

First of all nobody is buying this i am just asking questions routine. You have been fed a line and you are now running with it.

Second of all yes a lot of nonsense is flying about false flag operation including one today form Ukraine that Russia is going to stage a false flag on Chernobyl. See the difference is that people understand that none of this is verified and is most certainly propaganda but you keep asking them important questions. When Russia changes tact again if needs to i look forward to the investigative work of a son of a kgb agent and the guy who decided that making money by pushing ■■■■■■■■ is better than actual journalism. ■■■■ that guy.

Review the video of Nuland and Rubio in the OP and get back to me.

Who is Russia trying to convince?

Why didn’t Russia state this right from the beginning when the world was hammering them on it?

Why didn’t they use it as part of the case to get UN support to go into Ukraine in the first place? Get a multinational team to go in and investigate.

If the US pulled a veto on that notion, then THAT would have been a red flag.

See why people think this is dubious?

The right wing around the world?

Bio labs not bio weapons. Go to the English version of ría news and look at the shining light that is the same exact headline about the nu land testimony and bask in the warmth of Russian propaganda
